Grassroots Advocacy Coordinator – India
AFWA is hiring a full-time Grassroots Advocacy Coordinator in India. The position will involve interstate field travel. The position involves working with civil society organisations, members, potential partners, union delegates and other stakeholders of the AFWA in India.
Previous experience in a role similar to this is desirable.

Responsibilities
- Maintain, strengthen, and expand alliance building among civil society organisations such as labour/feminist/anti-caste/student movements in India
- Maintain strong relations and good communication practices with partners in India
- Design, plan and implement advocacy strategies and campaigns in line with the AFWA India’s overall strategy and in collaboration with the AFWA India staff and network union members
- Support the implementation of AFWA programs in India and contribute to AFWA’s campaigns, communications, social media, and advocacy work
- Provide support to strengthen partners’ work in training, research, advocacy, and campaign (as needed)
- Identify, analyse and monitor developments and emerging issues within the labour movement and garment supply chain of India
- Coordinate with AFWA partners at the country level in implementing collaborative work
- Represent the organization in the social/labour/feminist movement circles , as well as with our leadership at external meetings or events
- Monitor deliverables and expenses for the work assigned; write reports as and when necessary
- Organize and support conducting national and international conference, seminar, and other meetings as required
- Work within the AFWA team and perform other relevant duties as required by supervisors
- Assist with fundraising and outreach, as needed
- Follow policies and procedures of the AFWA
Expectations for the position
- Will have the ability to conduct action research, create policy materials, statements and more
- Will have excellent advocacy, consensus-building, coalition-building, and leadership skills; demonstrated ability to work collegially and collaboratively with other staff and other organizations; demonstrated ability to work with groups and individuals across the political spectrum
- Will have exceptional communication skills, both written and oral; ability to analyze and articulate concepts and other complex issues and to communicate them to a variety of audiences
Qualifications/Skills
- Master’s degree (development studies, public policy, labour studies) or equivalent
- At least 2 years of experience in advocacy, network building, or volunteering with labour rights or human rights organizations
- Exceptional interpersonal skills, including the ability to listen, communicate effectively, and build lasting relationships with civil society leaders, union partners, program staff, and advocacy staff.
- Strong understanding of labour rights and economic justice in a global context
- Self-motivated and comfortable working independently within agreed framework
- Excellent written and spoken English
- Fluency in Indian languages such as Hindi, Tamil or Kannada
- Ability to maintain focus in a multifarious work environment; comfortable with deadlines and field obligations
- Integrity, professional discretion, and ability to handle sensitive or confidential matters.
- Experience in research and writing on labour rights and global supply chains; and knowledge of labour movement, a plus.
Job status: Full-time; 1-year contract, renewable based upon satisfactory performance and availability of funds.
Salary Range: 40,000 – 45,000 INR per year or commensurate with experience. Benefits include health insurance and net/telephone allowance.
