A Campaign to Confront Gender-Based Violence and Harassment in Supply Chains

Garment worker unions across South and Southeast Asia have come together to demand an end to Gender-Based Violence and Harassment (GBVH) in global garment supply chains.

Women workers are confronting a system where male supervisors use bullying, harassment, and violence to keep them silent and afraid. But they are refusing to stay silent. With their unions, they are driving a global movement to expose violence and demand enforceable solutions, and make brands take responsibility.

Violence is out of fashion—and the time for excuses is over.

What is Violence Out Of Fashion?

Violence Out of Fashion amplifies the voice of women garment workers, exposing endemic GBVH in garment factories and calling for accountability from fashion brands.

Spearheaded by the Asia Floor Wage Alliance–Women’s Leadership Committee (AFWA-WLC) and Global Labor Justice (GLJ), this campaign is a powerful call for real change. Women workers across Asia are breaking the silence and demanding binding, enforceable solutions to end GBVH—solutions that put their safety, voices, and leadership at the center.

The SEWW Framework: A Proven Solution to GBVH

Garment workers and their unions across South and Southeast Asia are demanding brands sign onto enforceable agreements with these components:

– Worker Shop Floor Monitor Program

– Grievance mechanism that includes labor-management dialogue

– Reinforces national and international labor standards and best practices

– Enable and protect Freedom of Association (FOA)

– Protections against intersectional GBVH

– Training of workers, managers, supervisors, drivers, and beyond

– A global dialogue committee of labor stakeholders, brands, and suppliers (i.e. Oversight Committee)

– Business incentives for suppliers and protections for workers (job stability, order volume stability)
