Asia Floor Wage Alliance (AFWA) is an Asian global labour and social alliance across garment-producing countries in Asia. Founded in 2007, AFWA builds unity among Asian garment unions to hold global fashion brands accountable for labour rights.
AFWA is currently seeking a dedicated individual to join our team as a full-time Program Associate in Sri Lanka. This dynamic role will require extensive interstate field travel, providing a unique opportunity to engage with diverse stakeholders. As the Program Associate, you will collaborate closely with trade unions, civil society organizations, and various stakeholders in Sri Lanka. Responsibilities
• Work within the AFWA Sri Lanka National Team to foster collaborations among potential and current partners, while also expanding connections with civil society, including labour, feminist, and student movements.
• Identify, analyse and monitor developments and emerging issues within the labour movement and garment supply chain of Sri Lanka
• Support the National Team plan and implement advocacy strategies and campaigns in line with the AFWA Sri Lanka’s overall vision
• Work with AFWA Sri Lanka National Team and ensure overall coordination of programmatic initiatives in the country
• Represent the organization in the social/labour/feminist movement circles
• Provide occasional translation/ interpretation support for meetings and documents
• Perform other relevant duties as required by supervisors
Qualifications/Skills
● Master’s degree (development studies, public policy, labour studies, women’s studies) or equivalent experience
● At least 3 years of experience in program coordination, advocacy, network building with labour rights or human rights organizations
● Exceptional interpersonal skills, including the ability to listen, communicate effectively, and build lasting relationships with civil society leaders, union partners, and program staff.
● Strong understanding of labour rights and economic justice in a global context
● Self-motivated and comfortable working independently within agreed framework
● Excellent written and spoken English
● Ability to maintain focus in a multifarious work environment; comfortable with deadlines and field obligations
● Integrity, professional discretion, and ability to handle sensitive or confidential matters.
● Experience in research and writing on labour rights and global supply chains; and knowledge of labour movement, a plus.
